      "description",
"LocalNostr is a Nostr client that only shows you posts from within one kilometer of your physical location. No global feed. No algorithmic timeline. No signup or account creation. Just the notes and updates from the people standing near you.\n\nWhy this exists. Global feeds turn every place into the same noise. Your neighbor's note about a blocked street, a lost dog, a free couch, or a new caf\u00e9 matters more than a stranger's opinion from another continent. LocalNostr bets that hyperlocal context is worth more than viral reach, and it's willing to make that bet by design\u2014not by feature toggle.\n\nHow it works. Every post on Nostr can carry a geohash tag: a short code that identifies a roughly neighborhood-sized square on a map. LocalNostr computes your geohash locally, asks public relays for recent events tagged with nearby geohashes, and filters the results again on the client to enforce a strict 1 km radius. Your precise GPS coordinates never leave your browser. When you publish a note, only the coarse geohash goes with it.\n\nWhat it is not. It is not a fork of any existing client. It is not a relay. It is not a service, a company, or a login. There is no backend. It is a single HTML file that runs in your browser and talks directly to relays over WebSocket.\n\nWhat you get. A chronological feed of nearby posts, with approximate distances (\"~300m away\") but never your location. You can post notes to your local area with a coarse geohash attached. Your keys are generated locally the first time you open it and stored in your browser's localStorage. Nothing is sent anywhere except signed events you choose to publish.\n\nThe radical constraint. There is no way to escape the 1 km radius. There is no \"show me global\" button. This is intentional. It will feel too small for some people. It will feel exactly right for others.\n\nUnder the hood. Built on NIP-01 (events and relay protocol), NIP-19 (bech32-encoded entities), and NIP-CC (geohash conventions). Connects to 4 relays at a time, chosen from a pool of ~400 by a scoring system that exploits known-good relays and explores new ones every 5 minutes. Reads recent events with a #g tag filter and re-verifies distance client-side with the Haversine formula. Supports NIP-62 (Request to Vanish) so you can ask relays to delete everything signed by your key.\n\nRun it. Open index.html in any modern browser. Grant location permission (or enter coordinates manually). That's it.\n\nStatus. Working prototype. The protocol supports everything here. The only open question is whether people want it.\n"
